The FV4990

Description

The FV4990 was a unique product of English masterminds. What the British engineers sought out was a main battle tank that was very agile yet had amazing armor. Looking back at history, it was evident that no medium tank would be capable of possessing both of these properties if it had the conventional design. In what seems to be a tank design straight from another world, the British succeeded in producing an incredibly well armored vehicle that was also capable of blinding speeds. To do this they created a solid superstructure that had an astoundingly shallow slope for the frontal hull. This ensured that almost any shell that came in contact with the front of the tank would bounce off straight away. The turret also made use of this engineering ingenuity and gave the overall vehicle a seamless form. This design also allowed for a massive 180mm gun to be mounted on the tank because of the solid structure it had. However, nothing comes without a price. While the British did succeed in producing the best armored medium tank ever made, it came at the price of gun depression. As can be seen in the picture above, the FV4990 could not aim any lower than 0 degrees. It literally could not aim down when looking forward. This made level or ascending grounds the necessary battle terrain for the FV to be able to fight, and even then, the tank would only be able to shoot an enemy tank's turret most of the time. The tank had to depend on terrain to aim for tanks lower than itself. The FV4990, however, could turn its turret to its side and have a great depression of over -10 degrees, but in doing so the tank would be revealing its side armor and lose the protection of the 400mm hull. In conclusion, the FV4990 was perfect for rushing at well armed enemies fearlessly and then, when the time came, turn its turret to the side and fire where ever it wished. The FV4990 proved to be the strongest tank of the 21st century, and could smash any other tank in 1 to 1 battles, as long as they weren't lower than it.
